Green Bay Transportation

The American Red Cross Lakeland Chapter has been providing rides to individuals 60 years and older, and any individual with a disability in Green Bay for over 30 years. The service began with an idea to help those who could no longer get around town get to their various appointments. With the purchase of a car and a few volunteer drivers the transportation program started. Today we have a fleet of 31 vehicles, over 95 volunteer drivers & 6 staff members. In 1996 the American Red Cross Lakeland Chapter built a new Service Delivery building located at 121 Bader Street in Green Bay. The building consists of office space, a classroom, storage space & a garage area where our transportation vehicles are kept. If you are ever in the area, please stop by the facility for a tour and information about the American Red Cross Lakeland Chapter Transportation program.

The American Red Cross transportation vans and buses are funded by a state grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Brown County, United Way of Brown County, client donations, and contributions support the administration of the program.

The transportation program is a door to door service providing rides for medical, nutrition, employment, education, and social appointments. Rides are provided in wheelchair accessible vans, small buses & cars.

Historical Data of the Transportation Program:

  • 2006 64,990 rides provided to 1,504 clients.
  • 2007 66,635 rides provided to 1,853 clients.
  • 2008 67,327 rides provided to 2,223 clients.
  • 2009 66,873 rides provided to 2,978 clients.

We ask for a $4.00 contribution per person for a round trip ride. Clients will need to pay the driver when they board the vehicle. Curative Rehabilitation. We strongly encourage tickets to be purchased in advance if possible. Anything paid over this amount will be considered a donation and will be used to offset the cost of maintenance and fuel for our vehicles.
