
Specialty First Aid
The American Red Cross offers Specialty First Aid courses to broaden your skills beyond the traditional First Aid course. Have you ever wondered what you can do to help your injured pet? Or, do you love the outdoors and want to be prepared for any emergency? The American Red Cross can help you develop your existing knowledge and skills needed for your lifestyle.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Dog & Cat Aid – 4 Hours
Course Content: Designed to protect both the pet owner and the pet as well as the pet caretakers and their pet clients (dogs and cats) from further harm, injury or suffering during emergencies by teaching prompt, effective actions and care that will safeguard the life of an injured pet. The course is taught by a licensed veterinarian. |

Participants should indicate if they want the dog first aid booklet/DVD or the cat first aid booklet/DVD.
Prerequisite: minimum 10 years of age
Certificate Received: Has attended Pet First Aid for Dogs and Cats |
Wilderness First Aid Basics - 16 Hours
Course Content: This course gives the knowledge of first aid skills in a setting in which emergency care is delayed for long periods of time or when self-evacuation is necessary. Participants will be able to: identify causes of injuries and ways injuries can be prevented in wilderness areas, learn proper advance preparation for journeys into the backcountry and experience providing wilderness first aid through the means of scenarios and simulated rescues that test knowledge and skills.
Certificate Received: Wilderness First Aid valid for 3 years
Sports Safety Training - 11 Hours
Course Content: Gives individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe environment to adult and child athletes while they are participating in sports, and in or emergency, to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Also includes Adult and Child CPR with AED.
Certificate Received: Sport Safety Training-valid for 3 years, Adult and Child CPR - valid for 1 year Asthma Inhaler Training Lesson - 45 minutes
Course Content: Gives the participants signs and signals which can trigger an asthma attack. Demonstrates the use of an inhaler.
Certificate Received: Certificate Epinephrine Auto Injector - 1 Hour
Course Content: Gives the participants the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and assist someone, who is having an allergic reaction. Demonstrates the proper use of an auto-injector.
Certificate Received: Valid for 1 year.
